Municipal Development Plan (MDP)

A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is a statutory document that provides the guidelines for orderly growth and development in a municipality. It supplies the policy framework that addresses future land use within the municipality and includes short- and long-term future development; co-ordination of land use; future growth patterns; and provisions to account for changes to transportation, municipal infrastructure and facilities that would be affected by future land development.

Inter-municipal Development Plans (IDP)

An Inter-municipal Development Plan (IDP) is a statutory document that provides the guidelines for planned future land uses between two municipalities that are adjacent to each other, and generally it applies to their shared boundaries. It establishes the policy framework for coordinated future land use between the two municipalities and includes how the municipalities will work together; the development of joint lands; and provisions for shared parks, recreation, transportation and municipal infrastructure.
